Although for a little period, even striped plastic straws were not as likely to be seen. A lot of restaurants & cafes opted for different choices, paper straws or metal straw etc. But now, here they are again! Others see striped plastic straws, and other different types of festive materials used to stir drinks, as making water exciting when normally having it alone would be mundane. They make beverages look more fun! In addition, a lot of people find them more convenient than paper straws. Even though paper straws typically get soggier and weaker the longer you drink from them, therefore not serving to improve your drinking experience. That is why some prefer the plastic ones —the elastic rubber bands are then essential necessity when it comes to races like this.
Those cute little colorful striped plastic straws are not good for the environment. Plastic straws, did you know they can take hundreds of years to break down? This means that they can remain in landfills and contribute to pollutants found within our oceans for a very long time. Fortunately, there are many healthier options we could be making. A better choice is metal straws that can be used over and over again. This is how you can significantly reduce waste. Or you could always opt for a paper straws as they are made from biodegradable materials and break down easier than plastic does. And there are even edible straws in some of the cafes that can be made with pasta, rice or seaweed. This not only saves the natural environment, it also gives you a more enjoyable experience when drinking your favorite beverages.
Plastic straws have been around for over 50 years, with those color stripes and all. An inventor, Joseph Friedman first came up with an idea to bend straws as they were created in the 1960s. He had this desire to help his daughter love milkshake and not make a mess while drinking. Regular ones would bend too much (leading to spills) and it was hard for her. So, he placed a screw into the plastic straw and spiraled it to give some kind of spiral that will consume from without slopping out. Here he received a patent on his invention in 1968, later selling the rights to Maryland Cup Corporation. Then one company began to supplement their straws with a molded, external-to-the-straw stripe design -- and so the line-striped plastic straw finally appeared for us as it is today.

Whilst a striped plastic straw is all fun and vibrant, they are very much the villains to our environment. The point of the matter is that plastic straws are not biodegradable and cannot break down. This is why they can remain in landfills and our oceans for many decades, sometimes even centuries! Moreover, plastic straws are too small to be recycled and because of that they will go to waste. For example In the USA, 390 million plastic straws are used EVERY DAY. This is way too much plastic waste that can harm our environment!

Know all the more about how plastics straws is distressing our current circumstance as an ever-increasing number of people request reactions, while scientists and makers chip away at arrangements that can be utilized in place. Certain companies are producing biodegradable straws from, for instance — cornstarch or sugarcane. They decompose a WHOLE lot quicker than plastic which in turn, is good for the planet! Some started using reusable straws instead, which can be made from materials such as silicone, bamboo or glass. The plus point is that these options could be used many of times which help to maintain the waste at bay even more. Even celebrities are getting in on the act by advertising their own brands of sustainable straws!
